The Jane Doe Revue is an all female rock orchestra that consists of nearly 30 women. The Jane Doe Revue was established in 2017 by Violet Vonder Haar and friends to bring together the female musicians in my community and to raise money for Planned Parenthood. Since our first show, we have raised over $30,000 for women’s health care in Missouri. JDR’s goal is to raise awareness of the importance of Women’s Rights, Women’s Healthcare, and to shed light on the importance of Equal Representation in the Music Industry. Each show takes the audience on a musical journey through the decades, showcasing songs written or made famous by women. Along with local talent, there are guest soloists and musicians rotating throughout the evening.
Since its inception, JDR has had an overwhelmingly positive response and has transformed the lives of women and young girls in our community by empowering them to use their voices to sing out and step up. It has provided an opportunity for us to share the stage with feminist icon Gloria Steinem as well as June Millington, of the all female rock band, Fanny. The event has grown consistently each year and drew nearly 600 people for our June 2019 show.
